A major objective of this book is to provide an account of the Quality Assurance (QA) process as implemented in the higher education systems of a number of Middle East countries, including Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. This book lays out essential theoretical and practical insights into the role of QA policies and practices in higher education in
the Middle East countries and builds upon this idea to provide a blueprint for future academic leaders in these countries and other Middle Eastern countries to enhance their QA policies and practices and drive higher education in those countries forward.

Tishk International University Officials Engage in Prominent Workshop on Higher Education Quality and Ranking
Erbil, October 8, 2023 – Tishk International University continues to demonstrate its dedication to academic excellence and its active role in shaping the future of higher education. On this notable day, the President, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the Director of Quality Assurance at Tishk International University took part in a workshop organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Region in coordination with Times Higher Education (THE) Ranking team led by Nick Davis, President of THE in the Middle East and Africa, and Lokesh Jetley, Regional Director of THE in the Middle East.
The workshop, titled “University System, Kurdistan Region and the Times Higher Education Capacity Building, National Framework & Building Towards World University,” was an instrumental platform for sharing insights and collaborating on strategies to enhance the quality and international standing of higher education in the Kurdistan Region.
The event commenced with opening remarks and introductions delivered by distinguished figures, including Assist. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hussein Ahmed, Head of the Apparatus of Supervision of Quality Assurance and Accreditation at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Assist. Prof. Dr. Abdulfattah Abdulrazzaq Mahmood, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Shareef Maulod Shareef, Vice President for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies at Salahaddin University.
During the workshop, a diverse range of topics were presented, shedding light on key aspects of higher education quality and global rankings. These included an overview of THE’s (Times Higher Education) rankings, capacity building through the THE Data Academy, building a national excellence framework, developing national rankings, utilizing a national dashboard, and setting timelines for the implementation of the project.

Tishk International University Collaborates with World Bank in a Study on Quality Assurance and Financing in Higher Education
On Wednesday, October 4th, the Director of Quality Assurance and the Director of ISO and Accreditation at Tishk International University participated in a crucial Zoom meeting organized by Dr. Silvia Marchionne, a World Bank Higher Education Consultant. The primary objective of the meeting was to establish contact with Tishk International University in the context of the World Bank’s comprehensive study on Quality Assurance and financing in the Higher Education system in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
This collaborative study, jointly conducted by the World Bank and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, aims to provide an objective and up-to-date assessment of the state of quality assurance and financing in the higher education system within the Kurdistan Region.
During the Zoom meeting, several essential topics were deliberated, including Tishk International University’s Quality Assurance Policy and its regularity basis, the institution’s Quality Assurance Procedures, the Accreditation procedures, students’ active involvement in decision-making processes, and the allocation of a dedicated budget for quality assurance activities.
